When you think of the Caribbean, the first thing that comes to mind is the paradise beaches with clear waters, shades of green or blue, and mild temperatures. The American Virgin Islands do not disappoint… that is exactly what you find there. In our one-week itinerary through the American Virgin Islands, we did one of the most special tours of the trip: a “Snorkeling trip” to Buck Island, one of the attractions on St. Croix Island.
We almost missed this wonder because my husband wasn’t very excited to spend nearly half a day snorkeling in deep waters. He is afraid of deep waters and had resigned himself to staying on the boat, but for a tour that costs $70.00 per person, he was wondering if it was worth it. In the end, we decided to go anyway.
The tour to Buck Island with Big Beard’s Adventure’s Tour leaves from the Boardwalk in Christiansted. It is advisable to reserve in advance to secure your spot. If it’s the low season, there is a minimum number of passengers required for the tour to take place. The Big Beard’s shop not only sells tickets for the tour but also has a selection of souvenirs and accessories. Necessary for this tour: bathing suit, towels, sunglasses, sunscreen, and a waterproof camera (they sell disposable ones at the shop.)

We chose to do the half-day tour, but there are also full-day tours and sunset tours available. The full-day tour includes lunch. For the half-day tour, they recommend that you bring your own drinks, and they provide ice on the boat.
We were greeted on the Adventure catamaran by Big Beard himself, who collected our shoes, and we received safety instructions from Michael, the captain, and Krissy, who not only helped with the boat tasks but also was our snorkel instructor.
