A Kenwood House was closed for renovations for a long time and reopened at the end of 2013 – I was looking forward to going there to see two works that I really like, ‘The Guitar Player’ by Vermeer and ‘Mary, Countess Howe’ by Gainsborough. But the place itself is worth a visit even if you’re not very interested in art: the house, which was originally built in the early 17th century, is located in a huge green area (Kenwood State), north of Hampstead Heath. In other words, it’s a beautiful walk for a nice day: you see the works, walk in the park, and you can even have lunch there, since they have a great restaurant.

I didn’t know Kenwood House before the renovation, but from what I saw, it must have been a difficult and very detailed job. In the library, for example, the ceiling is all decorated. The floor, the walls, the curtains: everything is very well preserved and further enhances the paintings and furniture pieces displayed throughout the rooms.
