O London Transport Museum is dedicated to preserving and teaching about the history of transportation in this cutting-edge city, which has always been a reference in the subject.
|
Located in Covent Garden Piazza, the museum encompasses everything related to London transportation, starting from the 19th century. Models of old buses and trains in real scale share space with samples of subway advertising posters as well as curiosities about how transportation was through the River Thames. There is a lot to see and absorb!
The collection is very well distributed and maintained, although – as in any other museum – everyone is welcome, the main audience of the London Transport Museum is kids. Many of the models can be explored from the inside, and there are several interactive tools. For example, there is a simulator that allows children to become subway drivers (although I wanted to try it as well, but I was embarrassed to wait in line, ahahaha).
But of course, many other things are more appreciated by adults, such as statistics, history, and the link between transportation and the city. After all, it’s hard to imagine how London would be without its hundreds of subway stations, double-decker red buses, and black taxis, right?
It’s worth mentioning that the museum shop is one of the best I’ve seen, it’s a great opportunity to buy a cool souvenir. It’s really worth it, so if you find something you like, don’t think twice: many things are exclusive to the museum, you won’t find them in souvenir shops around the city.
